About us

We deliver climate change adaptation and resilience courses, workshops, webinars, customised training packages, and one-to-one coaching, both online and in-person. Our training promotes climate change adaptation literacy and supports adaptation action. It draws on decades of experience in adaptation and resilience research and practice (see below). Our training is informed by our wider consultancy activities, detailed on the main Garama website. This site deals exclusively with our training services.

Our course on Adaptation Literacy is aimed at anyone who wants a good general understanding of adaptation and resilience.

Our longer Adapting to Climate Change course is aimed at individuals and organisations that require a more detailed technical understanding of these topics, for example to integrate adaptation into their activities or operations.

These courses are run as open courses that anyone can attend, and can also be tailored for delivery to specific organisations in particular geographic or sectoral contexts. They are built around a series of five core modules, enabling us to build flexible training packages for diverse audiences. We also offer modules on Culture and Heritage for Adaptation and Long-Term Perspectives on Adaptation, as well as workshops on Building Local Resilience (in partnership with Climate Museum UK).

Who is our training for?

Our training is for anyone who wants to develop a deeper understand of how we can adapt to a world being transformed by climatic and environmental change. It equips participants with the knowledge and skills they need to understand, design and deliver adaptation actions to address specific climate related hazards, impacts and risks, and build longer-term resilience. We have delivered training to national and local government (in the UK and globally), multilateral organisations, research bodies, academic institutions, NGOs, donor agencies, the private sector, community groups, and the general public. The flexible, modular nature of our training content means that it can be adapted for a wide range of audiences.

Accreditation

Currently, our courses are not accredited to any recognised body. However, we are investigating the possibility of accreditation for future courses. Participants receive a certificate of completion at the end of each course.

Since 2013, we have run our own in-person training courses here in Norwich, which have attracted participants from a wide range of countries and organisations, including development consulting firms, multilateral organisations, and UK and other government agencies.
