We offer the following courses on climate change adaptation. Click a course title for more information. See dates & pricing for details of confirmed course dates and costs.
Adaptation Literacy is a 1-day in-person or 6-hour online course that provides participants with an in-depth understanding of key adaptation concepts and adaptation principles, and an overview of the adaptation process. A longer version of this course includes additional content on climate change science, impacts and policy as relevant to adaptation.
Adapting to Climate Change is a 5-day in-person or 32-hour online course that incorporates and extends the content of the Adaptation Literacy course. It is intended for anyone who needs to engage with adaptation at a professional level, for example integrating adaptation into an organisation’s operations or working on specific adaptation and resilience initiatives. Anyone who has completed the Adaptation Literacy course can join this course part-way through.
Climate Change and Heritage is a 1-day in-person or 6-hour online course addressing climate change impacts on heritage, how we adapt heritage to address climate change impacts, and the crucial role heritage can play in adaptation. It is open to anyone but is primarily aimed at heritage specialists who need to engage with adaptation.
Long-Term Perspectives on Adaptation is a 1-day in-person or 6-hour online course that draws on archaeological and palaeoenvironmental evidence to examine how human societies have responded to rapid and severe climate change in the past. It asks what lessons these responses might hold for us today.
Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) for Adaptation is a 1-day in-person or 6-hour online course covering fundamental MEL concepts, specific MEL challenges for adaptation, MEL frameworks for adaptation (with examples), the measurement of resilience and vulnerability, and how we assess adaptation performance and effectiveness.
Resilience Workshops are run as half- to one-day in-person events. They are aimed at members of the public and local organisations who want to build resilience in their local area and take the form of a facilitated participatory climate risk assessment. Participants are provided with a framework for, and supported in, the assessment of key hazards, impacts and vulnerabilities, and the identification and prioritisation of adaptation responses and resilience building actions.
Build your own course by combining elements of any of the above courses to create a tailored training package for your organisation.
In-person courses are held in Norwich, UK, where we are based. Online courses are run as weekly 2-hour sessions on consecutive weeks (for some courses, additional sessions are scheduled for practical exercises in certain weeks). We will run a course on demand if there is sufficient interest (e.g. from an organisation or group that can cover the costs of at least six participants).
