Adaptation Literacy course

As we hurtle past 1.5°C and towards 2°C of warming, the need for adaptation grows ever more urgent. Just as carbon literacy is vital in our efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, adaptation literacy is essential if we are to navigate the escalating impacts of climate change.

Our Adaptation Literacy course is designed for anyone who wants a good general understanding of adaptation and resilience to climate change. It covers climate science, global policy contexts, key concepts related to adaptation, and a basic understanding of what adaptation involves and how to do it.

In short, the course seeks to demystify adaptation for anyone who doesn’t already work on it. It may also benefit those who do work on adaptation, particularly if they are new to the topic and/or have come to adaptation from another background or discipline.

The course is built around two of our five core modules and consists of six presentation-based sessions and two group exercises. Shorter interactive tasks are integrated into each session.

We run this course for organisations on demand, either as an off-the-shelf product or tailored to an organisation’s needs (see also build your own training). We also run it as an open course in which anyone can participate.

A more detailed treatment of adaptation is provided by our longer Adapting to Climate Change course. This course is designed for those who need to integrate adaptation into their professional work

Our work on adaptation literacy is part of our partnership with Climate Museum UK, with whom we are working to develop ways of strengthening adaptation literacy through trainings, workshops and other outreach activities aimed diverse audiences.
